THE START:
The start is next to Balquhidder village hall. Riders head east towards Balquhidder Kirk to start the climb.
FIRST CLIMB - 4.7k
The initial 1k section behind Balquhidder kirk is pretty steep, but then the incline starts to moderate and veers east. The full 4.7k ascent concludes at 405metres, the highest point of the KXC1000.
THE DESCENT
The descent is a white knuckled ride down the central forestry track of Kirkton Glen and after a sharp right turn across the Kirkton burn bridge, riders then descend west and finally emerge on the B road with a 500m tarmac sprint back to the finish line at the hall.
2015 ADDED OPTIONAL SECTION FOR MORE SKILLED RIDERS
For those more ambitious riders looking for more of a challenge there is an added "X" optional section, that incorporates a second climb of 500m, a 400m grassy singletrack traverse through the woods and then the new 300m "Hobo Wood Downhill" trail. After this "X" (extra) section, riders then re-join the main KXC1000 route back to the hall. Any riders electing to ride the X section will be awarded a 6.5 to 7 minute ** deduction to their overall time.
** Subject to final confirmation on the day
The main junctions will have the direction marked by a red arrow. Some will also be marshalled.
